The Academy of Make-up Scotland Bridal Hair Course

Hello all :)

For a good few years now I have been contemplating learning a bit of bridal hair. Its always something I knew I would get around to but its also something I have always been slightly terrified of... hair ups, complicated looks, getting in to stay in all day!!! Eeek I could never do that!

How wrong was I!!!

I decided to do a course with The Academy Of Make-up Scotland, and convinced my best friend Laura to do it with me. They have an amazing reputation and I follow them on facebook so I always see the amazing work that is being produced.

Our tutor was Karen McDougall Session Stylist and Oh wow is she amazing at what she does!!

Firstly she taught us how to properly section all of the hair, how to tong and set it correctly then off we went creating lots of different hair styles.

She brought along various different hair accessories and I picked a few up from Primark to add to the hair.

Firstly we learned a simple and gorgeous down style that is perfect for brides and guests.

Then we transformed it into a side pony tail.

Next a side messy bun with some beautiful accessories.

After that we played around with creating different braids and textures.

This is my favourite look of the day!

I had such a great day, it was so much fun to be learning again, I really have missed it!!

I honestly cannot believe how many looks we got through in just one day, and when I look at the styles I can hardly believe that I did them myself!!

If anyone is looking into any kind of hair or make-up training I could not recommend these guys highly enough! The training exceeded my expectations and was so much fun. Our tutor was a fountain of knowledge and was more than happy to answer my hundreds of questions.

Also thank you to my gorgeous model Nicole, who I would be nowhere without, you sat so still and allowed me to mess around with your hair all day. Finally thank you top my best friend who was on the course with me!! Where would I be without this girl!

Im not quite ready to offer bridal hair yet, but I look forward to practicing hard over the next few months so I can be ready to bring this service to all of my amazing clients!

Bridal Airbrush Make-up FAQ's

Ok so you have heard the buzz words 'Airbrush make-up' it sounds great but what exactly is it, and what does it look like? How does it feel?

Ive decided to write a post answering as many of your questions as I can!! If you have any more please do feel free to ask and I can add them into here!!

What is airbrush make-up?Airbrush make-up is the name given to make-up that is sprayed on to your skin using an airbrush instead of being applied with brushes, sponges etc. This allows precise application and a flawless lightweight and long lasting coverage.

How long does it last?
The professional airbrush make-up I use is extremely long lasting and will last you all day and evening. The only make-up you will need to reapply is your lipstick or gloss which naturally wears off once you start to eat and drink.
I recently used my airbrush make-up on an underwater music video and it lasted perfectly on the girls even underwater.

Is it heavy/ thick?
No, the airbrush make-up feels really lightweight on your skin, an you can have either a light coverage or a full coverage without it being heavy!

What does it look like?

Airbrush make-up looks like perfectly flawless foundation! It gives a beautiful even complexion and can cover up any skin imperfections eg acne, scarring and redness.

I'm not sure on the exact look I would like can i have a trial?

Yes, it is highly recommended that all brides come for a trial to reduce the time on the wedding day and to make sure I find the perfect look for you!

What are trials like, do you just give me one look?

Trials take place at my professional studio in Dundee and during this time I will try out a variety of different looks until we find the best look for you. As always it starts with a mini facial treatment using dermalogica skincare then move on to finding your perfect look.
While we try out different looks there is always a selection of bubbly, cocktails, wine, cupcakes and goodies for you to add that little bit extra pampering.

Ok I have all of the information I need, how can I book?
I can hold your wedding date for 2 weeks after your initial enquiry, after that time you are required to come and sign your bridal contract and pay your retainer fee.
The bridal contract protects both of us, it means I will not back out of your wedding and secures your wedding, and your wedding only for your date.
